'Scarecrow Idol'
Contestants are sought for the second annual "Scarecrow Idol" karaoke contest, part of the Trenton Scarecrow Festival.
The competition will be in three age brackets: 10- to 12-year olds, 13- to 17-year-olds and 18 and older.
Auditions will be Sunday and are by appointment only; there is a $5 entry fee for participating. All proceeds raised benefit a local charity or nonprofit organization. Last year's contest raised more than $2,000 for the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center and also gave away prizes to the winners.
Participants must have a karaoke CD available for the audition.
To register for an audition, go to scarecrowfestival.net and choose "Enter A Contest" to download the application form, and then call 1-734-675-7325 to schedule your audition.
The final competition will take place during the festival at 6 p.m. Oct. 5.
'We The People'
Creative Characters, in conjunction with Allen Park's Parks and Recreation Department, will hold auditions for performers ages 5 to 17 for "We The People, The Musical" from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the community center, 15800 White St.
The production is about six committee members planning a show for their town by using the Preamble of the Constitution as a guide and some patriotic tunes to express freedoms in America.
A tuition fee of $70 for Allen Park residents and $75 for nonresidents will be due at the first rehearsal, Sept. 16. For more information, contact Kelly Knick at 1-313-382-3340 or log on to www.freewebs.com/creativecharacters to apply.
'The Full Monty'
The Players Guild of Dearborn will hold auditions for the musical "The Full Monty" at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 at the Players Guild of Dearborn theater, 21730 Madison.
You must be registered by 8:30 p.m. to audition on either evening. Auditionees need not attend both sessions.
Production dates will be Nov. 9 through Dec. 2, with performances at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays.
Unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, N.Y., see how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "girls' night out," so they decide on a bold way to make some quick cash. In the process, they find renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun.
To those auditioning for one of the "strippers," these characters are "real men," not necessary tanned, beefy Chippendales types. Be prepared to be in full stage light in a costume the size of a Speedo (at most). But don't worry, lighting effects and clever staging will keep your private parts private.
Come prepared to list all potential rehearsal conflicts on the audition form. Selected readings of the play will be used for the auditions. It is highly advised that auditionees be familiar with the entire play. Perusal copies may be borrowed for a limited time.
Out of respect for others who are auditioning, do not bring young children to the auditions.
There will be a dance audition for everyone, so wear comfortable clothing. For perusal copies or additional information, contact the guild's casting governor, Nancy Valentini, at casting@playersguildofdearborn.org or 1-313-561-8587.
