'Applefest Idol'
Entries are being taken for singers who want to be considered for the "Applefest Idol" singing competition, to take place at the Huron Applefest Oct. 6.
To enter the adult division, contestants must be 18 years old by the entry deadline, Aug. 10.
Entry forms can be found online at www.huronapplefest.com or at the Applefest office, 37269 Huron River Dr., New Boston or by e-mail at entertainment@huronapplefest.com.
Along with the completed registration form, entrants must send in a $20 entry fee and a CD with one or more songs demonstrating your vocal ability.

At least 10 contestants will be selected from the entries and allowed to sing one song at the Applefest.
Prizes, as yet to be determined, will be awarded to the winner, selected by a panel of judges.
Michigan Opera Theatre Children's Chorus
Michigan Opera Theatre announces the formation of a new performing ensemble, The Michigan Opera Theatre Children's Chorus for children ages 10 to 16.
Led by Michigan Opera Theatre Chorus Master Suzanne Mallare Acton, the choir will perform as a separate ensemble and with international opera stars in Michigan Opera Theatre productions.
Children accepted into the MOT Children's Chorus will learn the various aspects of opera and voice training, including voice studies, movement and audition techniques in a professional environment with internationally-renowned opera singers and voice specialists as coaches and mentors.
Auditions for the chorus will be held in July and August, and the ensemble will rehearse and perform at the Detroit Opera House from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays from September through June 2008.
