Actor Chad Michael Murray isn't beating around the bush when it comes to love.

Murray, 22, recently popped the question to actress Sophia Bush, his co-star on the series "One Tree Hill."

The two plan to marry next year.

Hitting the jackpot



A British man found a gold mine after he bought an old suitcase for $37 at a flea market in Australia.

Inside the bag was a treasure trove of Beatles memorabilia, including signed photos and unreleased recordings of "We Can Work It Out" and "Cry Baby Cry."

Beatles experts speculate that the discoveries belonged to Mal Evans, a former roadie and driver for the group who was killed by police in 1976 after wielding a fake gun.

Booted



Actors Jorja Fox and George Eads were fired for breach of contract from the CBS series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

The two apparently asked for more money to remain on the show.

In Court



She'd better start working on the doilies and toilet paper cozies.

Homemaker extraordinaire Martha Stewart was sentenced last week to five months in jail on a felony conviction of lying about a stock sale.

Stewart also receives five months of home confinement, two years' probation and $30,000 in fines.She was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements.

The sentence was stayed pending an appeal from Stewart's defense team. The petition could keep her out of prison for at least a year.



Bad girl rocker Courtney Love's sentence on a charge of driving under the influence was pushed back until Aug. 6 to allow her to attend rehab.

Now in a private hospital facility, Love is scheduled to be released Aug. 5.

Several months ago, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of cocaine when she shattered windows at an ex-boyfriend's house.

"Access Hollywood" host Pat O'Brien is being sued by NBC for violating his contract by promoting his new show and trying to recruit staff members from his old gig.



Actor Tom Sizemore lost his chance for a new trial involving domestic violence charges with his former flame Heidi Fleiss.

Sizemore was convicted last August on counts of domestic violence, criminal threats and vandalism, and making harassing phone calls.

He was sentenced to a six-month jail term and three years' probation.



The murder trial for actor Robert Blake was pushed back until November to allow his attorney to further study documents.

Jury selection should begin in November.



Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin is having a g'day after being cleared of charges of interfering with wildlife in Antarctica.

He was facing a maximum penalty of up to $720,000 in fines and two years behind bars.



Distributors for Mel Gibson's epic film "The Passion of the Christ" are being sued for allegedly failing to pony up box office receipts.

The lawsuit was filed last week against Muvico Theaters.

According to the lawsuit, the chain owes about $1 million based on an agreement to pay 55 percent of receipts.

Fibbing



Honchos at the Sci Fi Channel are admitting that they lied about being in a brouhaha with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan over an unauthorized biography about a "buried secret."

The network originally said that Shyamalan agreed to take part in the documentary and later backed out after questions got too personal.

Raised



Now more wanna-be pop stars have a chance to show off their voices to the world.

Producers for the hit talent show "American Idol" raised the maximum age for the competition from 26 to 28. The minimum age remains at 16.

Missing



Pop group U2 still hasn't found what it's looking for.

A CD containing two years' worth work came up missing during a recent photo shoot in France.

The songs on the CD, which will be the band's first in four years, are works in progress and the group said on its Web site that it's worried about piracy issues.

Deaths

The Frugal Gourmet Jeff Smith, one of the most famous TV celebrity chefs whose career ended amidst a sex scandal, died in his sleep at his Seattle home last week. He was 65.

Smith had suffered from heart disease for years and underwent a valve replacement in 1981.



Actress Isabel Sanford, the only African American woman to earn an Emmy for her portrayal of "Weezie" Jefferson on the late '70s/early '80s sitcom "The Jeffersons," died July 9 at age 86.

According to family members, Sanford had been in ill health since artery surgery about 10 months ago.

Italian cinematographer Carlo Di Palma, known for his innovative use of color and darkness in films by Woody Allen and Michelangelo Antonioni, died last week at age 79.



Bass player Arthur "Killer" Kane, part of the influential '70 punk group the New York Dolls, died Tuesday of complications from leukemia. He was 55.
