HAIRSPRAY — Based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name, this latest version stars John Travolta as the mother of one of the star-struck teens who appear on a Baltimore dance show. Also stars Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Zak Efron and Amanda Bynes. Rated PG (New Line Cinema). MJR, AMC

I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY —Grateful Chuck Ford (Adam Sandler) owes fellow Philadelphia firefighter Larry Allensworth (Kevin James) for saving his life in a fire. Larry calls in that favor when civic red tape prevents him from naming his own two children as his life insurance beneficiaries. All that Chuck has to do is claim to be Larry's domestic partner on some city forms. But, when an overzealous bureaucrat becomes suspicious, the new couple's arrangement becomes a citywide issue and goes from confidential to front-page news. Rated PG-13 (Universal Pictures). DISTURBIA — Julie (Carrie-Anne Moss) works night and day to support herself and her son, Kale (Shia LaBeouf), a troubled teen under house arrest. Kale's interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home toward those of his neighbors, one of whom he suspects is a serial killer. Also stars David Morse. Rated PG-13 (Paramount Pictures). AP

EVAN ALMIGHTY —Newly elected to Congress, preening newscaster Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) leaves Buffalo behind and moves his family to northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and anoints him to accomplish a holy mission of biblical proportions. Rated PG (Universal Pictures). MJR

FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER — Marvel's first family of superheroes, The Fantastic Four, meets their greatest challenge yet as the Silver Surfer comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. 1408 — In this Steven King story, novelist Mike Enslin (John Cusack) published a string of best sellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world. Then he checks into suite 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms," defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson). Rated PG-13 (MGM). HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX — As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) will strike. HOSTEL 2 — Three young American women studying in Rome set off for a weekend trip when they run into a model from one of their art classes who invites them to a weekend of relaxation. Instead, they become victims for hire, pawns in the fantasies of the sick and privileged from around the world who secretly enjoy more grisly pursuits. Rated R (Lionsgate Films). AP

KNOCKED UP — Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist on the fast track. Her plans get seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Ben learns that he has a big decision to make with his kid's mom-to-be, whether to hit the road or stay in the picture. Also stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. Rated R (Universal Pictures). MJR

LICENSE TO WED — Newly engaged, Ben Murphy's fiancee, Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore), has always dreamed of getting married in a traditional wedding at her family church. The problem is, St. Augustine's has only one wedding slot available in the next two years, and its charismatic pastor, the Rev. Frank (Robin Williams), won't bless Ben and Sadie's union until they pass his patented, foolproof marriage-prep course that includes outrageous classes and outlandish homework assignments. MJR, AMC

LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD — Bruce Willis reprises his signature role as John McClane, the New York City cop as an attack on the vulnerable United States computer infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. MEET THE ROBINSONS — In this computer-animated tale, Lewis, an orphan, meets a mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson, who whisks him away to the future. OCEAN'S THIRTEEN — Ruthless casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double-crosses one of Danny Ocean's (George Clooney) friends. He may have taken down one of the original Ocean's Eleven, but he left the others standing and, worse for him, gave them a shared purpose — to take Bank down on the night of the grand opening of his new casino. Also stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Ellen Barkin and Andy Garcia. Rated PG-13 (Warner Bros.) MJR

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END — Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) are allied with Capt. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Capt. SPIDER-MAN 3 — Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. (Kirsten Dunst) and his duties as a superhero.
