The Southgate Community Players' "Playhouse Summer Series" kicks off with "Tuesdays With Morrie" on July 11, 12, 18 and 19 at the Playhouse, 12671 Dix-Toledo, Southgate.

Based on the novel by Mitch Albom, "Tuesdays With Morrie" chronicles Albom's weekly visits to learn what's truly important in life from a beloved professor who is dying of ALS.

Rudyard Kipling's adventurous tale, "The Jungle Book," takes on a rock 'n' roll twist courtesy of ShowBiz Starz at 3 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at the Royal Majestic Theater inside Trillium Academy, 15740 Racho Road, Taylor.

Stale Crackers, a rock 'n' roll band made up of ShowBiz Starz alumni, will provide the musical accompaniment.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and senior citizens. Call 1-734-934-7086 to order.

Henry Ford Community College's Theater Program presents its One-Act Festival 2008, offering a weekend of comedy and drama today through Sunday in the Adray Auditorium on HFCC's main campus, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn.

Two one-act plays make up the festival's conclusion this weekend — "Red Carnations," Glenn Hughes' tale of a boy vying for a young woman's affection in 1920s New York, and "Miss Julie," an August Strindberg work that chronicles a young aristocratic woman's pursuit of improper men.

Show times are at 8 p.m. tomorrow and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5, with audience seating available onstage. Call 1-313-845-9817 for reservations.

Check out Hilberry Theatre's take on "The Jungle Book" through July 12.

Children of all ages are invited to share in Mowgli's journey as he learns life lessons in the jungle.

All performances begin at 10:30 a.m. at the theater, 4841 Cass Ave., Detroit.
