The Downriver Council for the Arts, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor, is offering an origami workshop for students ages 10 through adults from 9:30 - 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Instructor Elizabeth Belcher will lead the class in the ancient art of paper folding, which began in China in the first or second century, then became a popular art form in Japan in the sixth century.

Motor Muster at Greenfield Village gives guys the chance to let their inner gearheads out to play, to check out some of Detroit's finest vintages and maybe reminisce about summers past spent under the hood.

Show Dad you think he's a classic by showing him a bunch of classics, as over 700 authentic vehicles from the 1930s to the 1970s will be on parade during Motor Muster in Greenfield Village from 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. tomorrow and 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday.


The Motor Muster includes pristine examples of automotive treasures spanning five decades, an eyeful for even the most casual of observers.

See pass-in-review parades and free lectures on classic cars, hear swing music of the 1930s and 1940s, and vote for your favorite racecar. Motor Muster is free with membership or admission to Greenfield Village; admission is $20 for adults, $19 for seniors and $14 for youths. Children under 5 and members are admitted free. Guided tours of the U.S. brig Niagara -- a replica 1813 tall warship -- will be given from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Port of Monroe.


Nearly a century ago, the U.S. warship Niagara, a relic of the War of 1812, came to Monroe for the public to admire. This weekend, an exact replica of the tall ship will be open for tours at the Port of Monroe.

The tall ship's visit is one of the Monroe County Historical Society's major events to raise awareness of the upcoming War of 1812 Bicentennial. The Niagara, built in 1988, is a reconstruction of the warship aboard which Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813 during the War of 1812.

The cost is $5 per person. Children ages 5 and under will be admitted for free. All of the proceeds of the Niagara's visit will be dedicated to the development of Monroe's River Raisin Battlefield site and events to celebrate the upcoming War of 1812 Bicentennial.

A mixed doubles golf tournament will be held next Friday at the Lake Erie Metropark golf course.

The field is limited to 30 couples. Entry fees are $50 per couple, which includes nine holes of golf, cart, barbecue and prizes.

Fees and applications are due at the starters desk by 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Kennedy Recreation Center, 3101 West Road, Trenton, is accepting team registrations for its seventh annual Trenton Tim Horton's 3-on-3 Ice Hockey Tournament to be held July 27 and 28.

The tournament is for Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam divisions. Each team will consist of four skaters and a goalie, with three skaters and the goalie from each team on the half sheet of ice at any one time.

Games will consist of two 10-minute periods. Each team will play a minimum of four games in the tournament.

Registration is $275 per team, which includes a tournament T-shirt for every player. Awards will be given to the first-place team in each division. In addition, players may enter into a skills competition. Events include fastest skater and showdown.

The Downriver Irish American Club will host the 2007 Irish American Festival from 4 p.m. - midnight July 20 and from 2 p.m. - midnight July 21 at Yack Arena, 3131 Third St., Wyandotte.

The event will feature food; beer; bingo; games; and live music by the Saline Fiddlers, Charlie Taylor, The Heinzman Dancers and Jim Perkins.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and raffles for a Detroit Tiger suite, a TV, a large basket o' cheer and a "bells of Ireland" Waterford vase.

Admission is $2 for this family event.

The ninth annual Motor City Harley Davidson Harleyfest will take place tomorrow at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

HarleyFest is an exciting all-day event that brings together Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the state to celebrate great music, great food and great bikes. Bikers and non-bikers are welcome.

Admission to the festival is always free and will feature a live music stage featuring some of Detroit's hottest local bands. In addition, there will be a "Best of Bike" show for prizes in various categories, a vendor village featuring everything from clothes and jewelry to airbrush artistry, plus lots of delicious food and drink, live auctions featuring autographed memorabilia, a day-long live broadcast by WRIF and more.

Gates officially will open at 11 a.m.

In addition, there will be a special Harley-Davidson "Rock-n- Roll Ride for Kids," starting from Motor City Harley-Davidson, 34900 Grand River Ave., Farmington Hills, to Freedom Hill County Park. Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. The ride will leave for HarleyFest, accompanied with a police escort, at 11 a.m. sharp. Riders are asked to pay $25 per person to participate in the ride, which provides them with a special Rainbow Connection collector's pin, parking fees for HarleyFest and a donation to The Rainbow Connection. The Comcast Summer Film Series returns to Campus Martius in downtown Detroit with blockbuster films for all tastes shown outdoors every Saturday night.

There is live entertainment at 8 p.m., with the movies starting at around 9 p.m.

The series begins tomorrow with "The Pursuit of Happyness." On June 23, Tyler Perry's "Daddy's Little Girls" will be preceded by a live guest appearance by Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr. On June 30, it's 2006 Academy Award-winning Best Animated Film, "Happy Feet."

Other great films that will be shown this summer include "Rocky Balboa," "Stomp the Yard," "Charlotte's Web," "Freedom Writers" and "Dreamgirls."

There also will be special advance screenings of two films: "Resurrecting the Champ" starring Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Harnett, and the sequel, "Daddy Day Camp," starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

This summer, take a ride on the wild side at the Henry Ford Museum, and find out what truly drives rock stars with the hot new exhibit, "Rock Stars' Cars & Guitars" through Sept. 30.

See John Lennon's "psychedelic" Rolls Royce, a sports car owned (and shot) by Elvis Presley, the actual "Little Deuce Coupe" of Beach Boys fame, a "Dukes of Hazard" 1969 Dodge Charger owned by Kid Rock, a 1969 GT 350 Shelby Mustang owned by Bob Seger and many more rock star vehicles, along with more than 30 guitars owned by some of the most legendary performers to pick up a pick.

"Our Body: The Universe Within," an eye-opening and educational exhibition of actual human bodies and organs, is making its Midwest debut at The New Detroit Science Center, 5020 John R St.

Including approximately 20 bodies and 135 other anatomical displays, the exhibit exposes the inner workings of human anatomy by presenting actual human specimens, reproductions of historic anatomical artwork and much more.

In an artful, compelling and dignified environment, guests will be able to connect with the human artifacts on a personal level that will help them to better understand their own bodies.

The exhibition has been held over through Sept. 3. Tickets are $24.95 for adults, $22.95 for seniors and $19.95 for children. The cost includes Science Center general admission. Children ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Visitors can add the IMAX Dome Theatre film "The Human Body" for an additional $3 for adults and $2 for children and seniors with the purchase of a ticket to "Our Body: The Universe Within." Advance tickets are available at www.detroitsciencecenter.org.

Heritage Decorative Artists of Southeast Michigan, a chapter of the International Society of Decorative Painters, meets bimonthly at the Westfield Activities Center, 2700 Westfield Road, Trenton.

Preservation Wayne is again offering walking tours through five historic districts of Detroit.

The tours take place at 10 a.m. Saturdays. Tours include downtown, the Eastern Market, midtown, auto heritage and the Cultural Center. Tours of the New Center are available by appointment.

Each tour costs $10 and takes two to three hours, looking at the area's past and present.

There are also Tuesday After Work Walking Tours at 5:30 p.m. starting from the Hotel Pontchartrain, 2 Washington Blvd. Each focuses on a different aspect of downtown — skyscrapers, restaurants and bars, sculptures and fountains or the buildings of Albert Kahn and Louis Kemper.

The evening tours are also $10 and take about two hours.

See the birthplace of the Model T with a tour of the historic Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, 461 Piquette, Detroit.

Walk the same floors as Henry Ford, the Dodge brothers, James Couzens and other auto pioneers, where the first 10,000 Tin Lizzies were manufactured before the advent of the assembly line.

A National Historic Landmark, the Ford Piquette Avenue plant is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of every month through October. Admission is $10, with free admission for ages 16 and under.
