Show the kids what family night at the movies used to be like tonight at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 3101 West Road, Trenton, when there will be a drive-in movie night in the center's parking lot.

The featured attraction will be the 2006 movie "Charlotte's Web." This classic story, based on the beloved book by E.B. White is the charming tale of Fern and her friend, Wilbur the pig. Just as Wilbur's fate on the chopping block seems near, he meets a very special spider who weaves messages in her web.

The fun begins at 7:30 p.m. with pre-movie activities. The movie will begin at dusk. The drive-in movie is sponsored by the Trenton Youth Commission. Admission is free. For more information, call 1-734-675-7300.

The Taylor Sportsplex, 13333 Telegraph Road, will present a Skating Stars Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Scheduled skaters include 1994 World Champion Yuko Sato, 2006 National Collegiate Junior Men's Champion Jonathan Cassar, 2007 U. S. Nationals Novice Pairs bronze medalists Jaylyn Kelley and Gabe Woodruff, 2007 U. S. National bronze medalist and 2007 International Prague Cup bronze medalists the Dearborn Crystalettes and other local skaters.

The event is a fund-raiser for 6-year-old Aleison Kowalski and her medical costs as she battles acute lymphocytic leukemia.

There will be a minimum $5 donation at the door. After the exhibition, there will be an open skate from 7 to 9 p.m. Skate rental is $2

Dearborn's 21st annual Art on the Avenue festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on Monroe Street between Michigan Avenue and Morley Street.

Artwork and fine crafts from more than 60 artists will be on display for perusal and purchase. There will also be food, free live musical entertainment, free Detroit Institute of Arts art workshops and demonstrations.

The Downriver Germania Club, 23156 King Road, Brownstown Township, will host its 36th annual German American Festival from 5 p.m. to midnight today and from 2 p.m. to midnight tomorrow.

Music will be provided by The Vagabonds and the Martin Brothers Plus 2 from 7:30 p.m. until midnight today, with Millie's Czech-Slovak Band, the Berg Duo, The Harmony and Dennis Malec's International Band playing tomorrow.

Activities tomorrow include an afternoon Kinderparade and a moonwalk for the younger guests. A flag ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. with area German clubs and local dignitaries represented.

And of course German food, including potato pancakes, will be featured, and German beer and wines will be available in the Weinstube. Cakes and other bakery items will be available at the Konditorei (cake kitchen).

Ample parking is available and admission is $3 per person.

The Downriver Council for the Arts, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor, is offering two origami workshops for students ages 10 through adults from 9:30 - 11 a.m. June 9 and 16.

Instructor Elizabeth Belcher will lead these classes in the ancient art of paper folding, which began in China in the first or second century, then became a popular art form in Japan in the sixth century.

The workshop fee is $10 for one session or $18 for both sessions. Materials are included in the fee. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. For more information or to register, call 1-734-287-6103. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.

The sixth annual Masco Art in the Park Festival takes place June 9 and 10 at Heritage Park in Taylor.

The event features a juried art fair, a student art exhibit and quality crafters selling a wide variety of their work.

Entertainment on June 9 includes The Troubadours, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Superball, 3 to 6 p.m.; and Men in Black, 7 to 11 p.m.

On June 10, Downriver children take over the Main Stage, with the children's baking competition from 11 a.m. to noon, the children's talent competition from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and Taylor Ballet Americana and the Taylor Dance Program performing from 4 to 5 p.m.

The third annual "Cruisin' for the Arts" is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. June 9 at the Taylor Sportsplex, 13333 Telegraph.

The classic car cruise and show are part of the Masco Masco Art in the Park Festival June 9 and 10 at Heritage Park.

Drivers should start lining up for the cruise portion of the show at noon at the Sportsplex starting at 1 p.m., the cars will cruise through midtown Taylor on Goddard Road, ending up in Heritage Park where they will be on display from 2 to 6 p.m. An awards ceremony will take place at 4 p.m.

Advance vehicle registration is $8. Registration the day of the cruise is $10. Proceeds benefit the Taylor Friends of the Arts and the Taylor Cultural Arts Commission.

Just close your eyes and think of Tuscany as the Downriver Council for the Arts presents "Pasta and Puccini al Fresco II," an outdoor dining and musical experience from 6 to 9 p.m. June 14 on the grounds of the DCA, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor.

Dine on cuisine by Matt's Food Emporium and Carrabba's Italian Grill while listening to live entertainment.

Tickets are $5 per person, with proceeds supporting DCA programs, services and scholarships.

Guided tours of the U.S. Brig Niagara -- a replica 1813 tall warship -- will be given from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 16 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 17 in the Port of Monroe.

The tall ship's visit is one of the Monroe County Historical Society's major events to raise awareness of the upcoming War of 1812 Bicentennial. The Niagara, built in 1988, is a reconstruction of the warship aboard which Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813 during the War of 1812.

The cost is $5 per person. Children age 5 and under will be admitted for free. All of the proceeds of the Niagara's visit will be dedicated to the development of Monroe's River Raisin Battlefield site and events to celebrate the upcoming War of 1812 Bicentennial.

The ninth annual Motor City Harley Davidson Harleyfest will take place June 16 at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

HarleyFest is an exciting all-day event that brings together Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the state to celebrate great music, great food and great bikes. Bikers and non-bikers are welcome.
