AT THE MOVIES

Movies shown at local theaters are marked as follows: MJR (MJR Cinema 20 in Southgate), AMC (AMC Star Taylor), AP (Allen Park Theater), IMAX (Henry Ford IMAX Theatre in Dearborn).

LATEST OPENINGS:

Shrek (the voice of Mike Meyers) begrudgingly submits to a royal primping in DreamWorks' "Shrek The Third."

Dreamworks Animation
SHREK THE THIRD —When Shrek (the voice of Mike Meyers) married Fiona (Cameron Diaz), the last thing he had in mind was becoming the next king. But when Shrek's father-in-law, King Harold (John Cleese), suddenly dies, that is exactly what he faces. Unless Shrek, with the help of his trusted companions, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss In Boots (Antonio Banderas), can find a suitable king for Far Far Away, the ogre could be stuck with the job. The most promising candidate, Fiona's cousin, Artie (Justin Timberlake), a high school slacker, proves to be more of a challenge than they bargained for. Voice talents also include Rupert Everett, Julie Andrews, Eric Idle, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, John Krasinski and Ian McShane. Rated PG (Dreamworks Animation). MJR, AMC

ALSO SHOWING:

BLADES OF GLORY — Rival figure skaters Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) are stripped of their medals and banned from the sport after fighting at the world championships. Three-and-a-half years later, they've found a loophole that will allow them to compete in pairs figure skating. Rated PG-13 (Paramount Pictures). MJR, AMC

BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA — An 11-year-old boy has his life changed forever when he befriends the class outsider, a girl. Together they create Terabithia, an imaginary kingdom filled with giants, trolls and other magical beings. Rated PG (Walt Disney Pictures). AP

DELTA FARCE — Larry (Larry the Cable Guy) joins his buddies (Bill Engvall and DJ Qualls), for a relaxing weekend of drinking and target practice; however, the trio are mistaken for Army reservists and loaded onto an army plane headed for Fallujah, Iraq. Instead, they're ejected in a Humvee somewhere over Mexico. Convinced they're in the Middle East, they save a rural village from a siege of bandits and become local heroes. Rated PG-13 (Lionsgate Films). MJR, AMC

DINOSAURS ALIVE! 3D — From the sand dunes of Mongolia's Gobi Desert to the sandstone buttes of New Mexico, the film follows American Museum of Natural History paleontologists as they explore some of the greatest dinosaur finds in history. IMAX

DISTURBIA — Julie (Carrie-Anne Moss) works night and day to support herself and her son, Kale (Shia LaBeouf), a troubled teen under house arrest. Kale's interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home toward those of his neighbors, one of whom he suspects is a serial killer. Also stars David Morse. Rated PG-13 (Paramount Pictures). MJR, AMC

THE EX — A slacker (Zac Braff) is forced to work for his father-in-law after his pregnant wife (Amanda Peet) steps away from her high-paying job. Also stars Jason Bateman. Rated PG-13 (Weinstein Company). MJR

FRACTURE — Ted Crawford (Anthony Hopkins) readily admits to shooting his wife and is arraigned for a seemingly slam-dunk case for young assistant district attorney Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling). In a tense duel of intellect and strategy, Crawford and Beachum both learn that a "fracture" can be found in every ostensibly perfect facade. Rated R (New Line Cinema). MJR

GEORGIA RULE — When Rachel (Lindsay Lohan), a rebellious teenager, crashes her car, she has broken the final rule in mom Lily's (Felicity Huffman) San Francisco home. Lily sends Rachel to her own mother's Idaho farm, where matriarch Georgia (Jane Fonda) lives by a number of unbreakable rules, demanding anyone who shares her home to do the same. Rated R (Universal Pictures). MJR, AMC

HOT FUZZ — Police officer Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg), London's top cop, is "promoted" to the idyllic village of Sandford, where he is partnered with Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), an oafish, but well-meaning, young local cop. A series of grisly "accidents" occurs, making this a case that Angel has to crack. Rated R (Focus Features). MJR

HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU — Viewers go on a breathtaking tour of the Louisiana bayou and the city of New Orleans, a place overflowing with life, music and natural beauty. IMAX

THE INVISIBLE — High school senior Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) is suddenly attacked and left for dead. He's caught in a haunting limbo where he can observe the world of the living, but they can't see him. Stars Marcia Gay Harden, Chris Marquette and Alex O'Laughlin. Rated PG-13 (Hollywood Pictures). Once a successful dentist, he has retreated from his life, and at the same time, Alan is overwhelmed by his responsibilities. Rated R (Columbia Pictures). AP

SPIDER-MAN 3 — Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. (Kirsten Dunst) and his duties as a superhero. When Peter's suit suddenly turns jet-black, his powers are enhanced and he is transformed, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality. Also stars James Franco, Thomas Haden Church and James Cromwell. Rated PG-13 (Columbia Pictures). MJR, AMC, IMAX

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES — After the defeat of their arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Their rat sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried, though, when strange things begin to happen in New York City. Voices by Mako, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Patrick Stewart. Rated PG (Warner Bros.). AP

28 WEEKS LATER — In this sequel to "28 Days Later," six months have passed since the virus wiped out London. British citizens are now returning to District One as part of an American military project to repopulate and restart the city. But the infection still lives among carriers who show no outward symptoms. Rated R (Fox Atomic). MJR, AMC

VACANCY — When David (Luke Wilson) and Amy Fox's (Kate Beckinsale) car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, they are forced to spend the night at the only motel around, with only the TV to entertain them until they discover that the slasher movies they're watching were all filmed in the very room they're sitting in. Rated R (Screen Gems). MJR, AMC

WILD HOGS — A group of middle-aged friends decide to rev up their routine suburban lives with a freewheeling motorcycle trip. Stars Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and William H. Macy. Rated PG-13 (Touchstone Pictures). MJR
