Alumni from the 1956 to 1978 Stan Kenton Orchestras will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Woodhaven High School, 24787 Van Horn Road.

The jazz band will perform some of the Stan Kenton Orchestra's well-known music as well as new material written in the Kenton style and original songs written by band members.

Huron Valley Eagles Aerie 3732, 13636 Telegraph, Flat Rock, will hold a special benefit concert to help pay funeral expenses for the late Freddie Newby, the club's longtime soundman, at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Musical acts will include Deepwater Bluegrass, Blue Velvet Express, Marion Blue, Southern Explosion, Hardline Drive, the Mike Adams Band and Roy Cobb, Mitch Manns & the Coachmen.

There also will be raffles, auctions and music. Food and beverages will be available.

The Taylor Town Trade Center, 22525 Ecorse Road, presents "The Taylor Town Opry," live music from 2 to 5 p.m. every Friday. The concerts are free. All ages are welcome.

Some of the best traditional Irish music will be found at the 2008 Midwest Fleadh Cheoil today and tomorrow at the Doubletree Hotel, 5801 Southfield Freeway, Detroit.

Irish musicians from around the Midwest will compete in solo, duet, trio and band competitions to qualify for the All-Ireland Music Competition in August.

Competitions run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow and a battle of the bands takes place from 7 p.m. until midnight.

To finance the festival's cost, the Detroit Irish Music Association will host a special concert featuring Bohola with Jimmy Keane and Pat Broaders and Irish tenor Paddy Homan at 8 p.m. today at the hotel.

Step dancers from the Heinzman School of Dance also will perform.

Admission to the concert is $15. All-day passes are $15 or $8 for morning-only or afternoon-only programs.

The 2008 Downtown Hoedown featuring some of the biggest country music acts in the nation moseys into Hart Plaza in Detroit today through Sunday.

Headliners include Trisha Yearwood, Gretchen Wilson, Jewel, Lonestar and former "American Idol" finalists Phil Stacey and Josh Gracin.

"Fourth Fridays with Ford" kicks off at 11 a.m. May 23 at Campus Martius Park in Detroit with a full day of music, food and entertainment for free.
