The 21st annual Art Ambience juried art show features works from more than 60 artists next Friday through April 27 at the Woodhaven Community Center, 23101 Hall Road.

An opening reception is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. next Friday. The show runs from noon to 5 p.m. April 26 and 27. Admission is free.

Gourmet food baskets and a money tree will be raffled during the opening reception.

The three-day show will feature more than 250 pieces of art as well as art demonstrations and a "cash and carry" miniature show with art priced as low as $20.

The Artistic Creators Guild is hosting a show featuring exhibits from 11 artists at the Wyandotte Historical Museum, 2610 Biddle Ave.

The show features moderately priced paintings and a limited amount of arts and crafts.

Admission is free. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26 and noon to 4:30 p.m. April 27.

The guild also is looking for new members. Those interested in joining can call 1-313-928-6753.

The Downriver Council for the Arts invites artists, arts organizations and other nonprofits in the area to take part in its Ultimate Trunk Show and Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 10 at the DCA, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor.

Rent a parking space for $20 to sell items from car trunks. All proceeds go to the artist or organization.

Space is limited and spots are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Yard sale donations of small household items and art-related material are needed for the DCA's Yard Sale and can be dropped off during business hours May 7 and 8.

"Green Bunny," a mixed- media show featuring recycled and Earth-friendly materials, runs through June 7 at Biddle Gallery, 2840 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte.

Artists include Rick McQuaid, Ryan Weiss, Jerome Ferretti, Jeri Hollister and Michelle Kramp.

Also displaying work will be Terri Sarris, Dave Moroski, Carl Oxley III, Mrrranda Tarrow, Joan Painter Jones, Rick Pruckler, Joey Merchant, Taryn Boyd, Davin Brainard, Greg Loselle, Heather Fagan and Faina Lerman.

River's Edge Gallery, 3024 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte, has a new exhibit, "Shades of Green: art Rescued, Recovered, Reworked, Repurposed," on display through May 12.

The new show is composed of artwork with a green message, featuring art made with natural elements or cast-off objects.

In the second floor gallery, visitors find everything from belt buckles made out of old wrenches to tables made from street signs by artists Paul Balog, Tim Burke, Nancy Byrum, Rick Chaedel, Mary Ellen Croci, the late Arnold Dreifuss, Michelle Fancovie, Kevin Martin and Sandy Smith.

The third floor's Patricia Izzo Fine Art Photography Gallery features the same message with a fine art photographer's twist in photos from B.T. Charles, Joe Crachiola, Elayne Gross, Patricia Izzo, Marianne Letasi, Teresa Louisias, R.W. Stewart, Elaine Redmond and S. Kay Young.

The photos range from Polaroid shots to digital images of everything from industrial subjects to nature scenes.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Spring classes and workshops abound at the Downriver Council for the Arts, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor.

Start Wednesday mornings off right with "The Art of Yoga" from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Home Gallery with instructor Cheryl Rudd.

Participants should bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes. There is a $5 fee for the drop-in class

"Life Drawing" for ages 18 and older runs from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow and May 3, 10 and 17, and June 7, 14 and 21.

Instructor Mark Jackson will lead all skill levels in developing skills in the basic and traditional drawing regimen of the male and female nude model.

Artists must bring supplies, including easels. Each session includes three classes, and classes don't have to be taken consecutively.

The fee is $10 a class for DCA members or $15 a class for non-members.

"Abstracted, Shook Up and Set Free" will help painters use watercolor and mixed media to translate feelings into paintings.

The class, led by instructor Janus Benda, runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. DCA members pay $20; non-members pay $25. A supply list will be sent upon registration.

"Ndebele/Herringbone Stitch" will focus on introduction to the herringbone stitch from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday with instructor Babsi Riegler.

Students should bring a beading surface, task light, scissors, a pen and notepad.

The fee is $20 for DCA members and $25 for non-members, plus a $15 fee to the instructor.

Ceramist John Albert Murphy will lead a "Raku 2-Day Workshop" from noon to 4 p.m. June 7 and 14.

All skill levels are welcome. The $80 fee includes all materials. The two-day workshop includes a lecture and demonstration in addition to creating, glazing and Raku-firing pottery.

Henry Ford Community College's Annual Student Art Exhibition showcases the school's creative talent through May 2 in the Sisson Gallery at the Mackenzie Fine Arts Center, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn.

Pewabic Society Members Only Day runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

A Tabletop Workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and tomorrow. The cost is $125 plus purchase of tile. Space is limited to 12 people per session and reservations are required.

"Still Pulling: Traditional Printmaking in the Digital Age" runs through May 16 at the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery, 480 W. Hancock, Detroit, on the Wayne State University campus.

The exhibit features hand-pulled prints by more than 20 artists from across the United States and Canada who focus on traditional print processes and the shared aesthetic of abstraction that references nature.

"Waynemania: 2008 WSU Undergraduate Exhibition" opens today with a special reception from 5 to 8 p.m. and runs through May 23 in the Community Arts Gallery.

More than 200 works from undergraduate students in the Department of Art and Art History will be on display.

Most works at the free event will be available for purchase.

"ReFUSING FASHION: Rei Kawakubo," an exhibit of the unique clothing by Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo, concludes Sunday at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.

The installation includes more than 40 key pieces, along with photographs and runway footage.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is offering special programs throughout the month.

Families and aspiring artists can enjoy workshops, presentations, music, films and storytelling at such weekend events as "Friday Night Live!" and "Target Family Sunday."

Get a glimpse of how Americans spent their leisure time 100 years ago at "Life's Pleasures: The Ashcan School's Brush with Leisure, 1895-1925" at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit, through May 25.

The 80-painting exhibition depicts different social classes enjoying prizefights, the ballet, parks and beaches at the turn of the last century.

All works are the creations of a group of American artists led by Robert Henri known as the Ashcan School.

Much of the group's work showed the grittier side of big city life, but this unique exhibit focuses on another facet of urban life.

Tickets, which include museum admission and an exhibition audio tour, are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 17. DIA members get in free.
