MUSIC TO YOUR EARS



Rural music from Eastern Europe takes the spotlight as the Teka Hungarian Folk Band performs at 7:30 p.m. today at the Hungarian American Culture Center, 26257 Goddard Road, Taylor.

The ensemble will bring a lively village atmosphere to the concert hall with its pure Old World sound.

Authentic Hungarian food will be available for purchase before the concert.

Downriver Community Voices will perform a concert of sacred choral music, including John Rutter's "Requiem," at 7 p.m. tomorrow at First United Methodist Church, 28400 Evergreen St., Flat Rock, and at 3 p.m. Sunday at Angelica Lutheran Church, 8400 Park Ave., Allen Park.

Children and those who are children at heart are invited to the Downriver Community Band's cabaret concert, "A Kid at Heart," set for 3 p.m. April 19 in the cafetorium at Wyandotte Roosevelt High School, 540 Eureka.

The musical journey will feature nostalgic tunes, including TV themes from "The Brady Bunch" and "I Love Lucy" as well as music from "The Lion King" and "High School Cadets," a march by John Philip Sousa.

The Downriver Irish American Club presents The Sally Forgette Memorial Concert featuring Blackthorn at 7 p.m. April 20 at the Trenton Village Theatre, 2447 W. Jefferson.

The second annual memorial "Gift of Life" polka dance in honor of Lisa Marie Biskup is set for 7 p.m. to midnight April 26 at the Polish Roman Catholic Union hall, 1430 Oak St., Wyandotte.

Featuring music from Lenny Gomulka & His Chicago Push with a special guest appearance by Mitch Biskup, the event will include Polish food, door prizes and a silent auction.

Tickets are $15 for adults. Children ages 13 and younger get in free. Doors open at 6 p.m. and there is a cash bar.

All proceeds go to the Michigan Donor Family Council organ donor foundation.

The Southern Great Lakes Symphony will present "Portraits in Music," a look at art through music, at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Flat Rock Community Auditorium, 28100 Aspen Dr.

The concert will feature cellist Debra Fayroian and her daughter, violinist Adrienne Jacobs Romark, in a work by Saint-Saens.
