Award-winning flutist Nadim Dlaikan leads his five-piece ensemble in playing traditional melodies of the Middle East and North Africa in a concert at The Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave., Detroit at 6:30 and 8 p.m. today.
The performance will include songs from famous Middle Eastern composers Mohomad Abdul Wahab and Farid al-Atrash, as well as pieces from popular singers Fayruz and Oum Kalsoum. Dlaikan plays a traditional Middle Eastern flute called a nye. It is usually made from a hollowed out reed.
His ensemble is composed of musicians from Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
The performance is free with museum admission, which is a suggested donation of $6 for adults and $3 for children. DIA members are admitted free.

Celtic Woman, four young Irish vocalists and a fiddle player, will grace the stage of the Fox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
