Celebrate the religious spring holiday season with a Grosse Ile tradition, the 22nd annual Lenten Concert at 3 p.m. March 18 at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church, 7925 Horsemill Road.
As he has every year since its inception, church music director James Parker will lead the concert, performed by a chamber orchestra, soloists, and 60-voice choir.
This year's concert is themed around peace. The main piece will be Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Dona Nobis Pacem" (Give Us Peace).
Known for his anti-war sentiments, Vaughan Williams composed "Dona Nobis Pacem in 1936 as a warning of the horrors of war based on what he had experienced as a soldier fighting in France during World War I.
Also on the program are two other versions of "Dona Nobis Pacem," one by J. S. Bach and the other by Giulio Caccini.
The concert is presented free of charge with a good will offering taken and refreshments served following the concert.
Trenton Parks and Recreation's "On Stage" series gets musical at 11 a.m. March 20 with a performance by Trenton Soundstation at the Trenton Village Theatre, 2447 W. Jefferson.
Trenton Soundstation is a group of Trenton High School music students.
