Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center will open its 2007 season with "School House Rock Live Jr." March 9-11 and 16 - 18 at The Trenton Village Theatre, 2447 W. Jefferson, Trenton.



Based on the classic Saturday morning spots that aired in the 1970s, "Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr." brings back the hip, entertaining and educational spirit parents and children of the era remember so fondly.

"Rent," the critically acclaimed Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, is coming to Detroit's Masonic Temple Theatre Tuesday through March 11.

The Gem Theatre presents the new musical "Respect: A Musical Journey."

Based on Dr. Dorothy Marcic's book, "Respect: Women and Popular Music," the show takes a historical, hysterical, high-energy look at women's changes from 1900 to today as illustrated by popular song, portrayed by a narrator and three singers, showing music's depiction of women, "Someone to Watch Over Me" to "I Will Survive" and beyond.

Bonstelle Theatre, 3424 Woodward Ave., Detroit, presents August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" today, tomorrow and March 9, 10 and 11.

Set in 1911 Pittsburgh, Herald Loomis is searching with a young daughter in tow for both the wife he lost and his place in the world after having been abducted and illegally pressed into labor for seven years by the notorious "Joe Turner."
