The Southern Great Lakes Symphony's jazz ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Grosse Ile Yacht Club, 29677 East River Road.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students. The music will be both hot and cool and so will the hors d'oeuvres. A cash bar will also be available.

Three-time Grammy-winning musician, entertainer and songwriter Tom Chapin will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Monroe County Community College's Meyer Theater at La-Z-Boy Center, 1555 S. Raisinville Road, Monroe.

The University Musical Society presents the Big 3 Palladium Orchestra at 8 p.m. Thursday at Hill Auditorium, 825 N. University Drive, Ann Arbor.

This large Latin jazz ensemble will play a Mambo tribute to bandleaders Machito, Tito Puente and Tito Rodriguez. Musicians include Machito Jr., Tito Rodriguez Jr. and many musicians from the original bands.

Violinist Joshua Bell will perform at Hill Auditorium at 8 p.m. Feb. 3.

Joined by renowned pianist Jeremy Denk, Bell's performance will include works by Schumann, Beethoven and Corigliano.

Shouts of "Gong Xi, Gong Xi," the traditional Chinese welcome to the New Year, will be heard throughout the Max M. Fisher Music Center at 3 p.m. Feb. 17 when the Detroit Symphony Orchestra hosts a musical Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration.

Part of the DSO's inaugural World Music Series, the celebration will feature a traditional Lion Dance, Chinese folk dancing, an animated Chinese film titled "The Monkey Tale" (with musical accompaniment by the DSO) and a "Gong Xi" sing-along.

The highlight of the program is "The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto" featuring violinist Xiang Gao.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra's World Music Series 2006-07 season continues with Middle Eastern composer and oud (Arabic lute) player Marcel Khalife with the multiethnic Absolute Ensemble, April 5; and superstar sitarist Ravi Shankar, in an appearance with his Grammy-nominated daughter, Anoushka Shankar, April 21.

Celtic Woman, comprising four young Irish vocalists and a fiddle player, will grace the stage of the Fox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 3.

Celtic Woman began as a successful PBS show and went on to release "The Celtic Woman" CD and DVD. The CD stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard World Music Chart for more than 60 weeks.
