The Downriver Council for the Arts presents "January Jazz & All That Wine" from 6 - 8 p.m. today at the Holiday Inn Southgate, 17201 North Line Road.

The night will be a bistro-style celebration with music by Hubbell Street Jazz, beer and wine tastings, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and a live auction featuring a trip for two to Napa Valley, Calif.

Tickets are $50. Sponsor tickets are $100 and include a bottle of fine wine and $10 in raffle tickets. All proceeds will support DCA programs and services.

Oakwoods Metropark will present "Oakwoods Winter Waterfowl" at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the nature center.

The silver screen meets reality as legendary Detroit broadcaster Sonny Eliot hosts a fund-raiser screening of the movie "The Great Escape" at the Yankee Air Museum at 6 p.m. Feb. 10.

Prior to beginning his broadcasting career, Eliot served as a B-24 bomber pilot in World War II and spent 18 months as a prisoner of war in Stalagluft I.

The evening's feature presentation will be shown in historic hangar 2 of Willow Run Airport, with guests sitting between the Yankee Air Museum's War II era aircraft. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for their comfort. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided by the Yankee Air Museum.

Tickets are $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members. $5 of the $10 admission can be used toward membership dues for guests interested in becoming members of the museum.

The Henry Ford Museum will present "The Eames Lounge Chair: An Icon of Modern Design," Feb. 3 through April 29.

This traveling exhibit, organized by the Grand Rapids Art Museum and Herman Miller Inc., features more than 30 objects from the creative design partnership of Charles and Ray Eames, the duo who revolutionized the world of furniture design in form and function.

Henry Ford Community College will present the free planetarium show "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening — A Winter Star Talk," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 26 at HFCC's planetarium on the upper level of the Science Building on the main campus, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn.

Our Body: The Universe Within, an eye-opening and educational exhibition of actual human bodies and organs, is making its Midwest debut at The New Detroit Science Center, 5020 John R St.

Including approximately 20 bodies and 135 other anatomical displays, Our Body: The Universe Within exposes the inner workings of human anatomy by presenting actual human specimens, reproductions of historic anatomical artwork and much more. By presenting an artful, compelling and dignified environment, guests will be able to connect with the human artifacts on a personal level that will help them to better understand their own bodies.

Tickets are $24.95 for adults, $22.95 for seniors and $19.95 for children, which includes Science Center general admission. Children ages 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors may add the IMAX Dome Theatre film "The Human Body" for an additional $3 for adults and $2 for children and seniors with the purchase of a ticket to Our Body: The Universe Within. The Southern Great Lakes Symphony's Overture Society will host "Beat the Blahs," an evening of dinner and entertainment, starting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Italian American Club Hall, 646 Biddle, Wyandotte.

The Royal Garden Trio will play traditional jazz, show tunes and vintage swing music for your listening and dancing pleasure.

Learn some of the secrets to drawing people at The Great Saturday Draw In Feb. 10 at the Downriver Council for the Arts gallery, 20904 North Line Road, Taylor.

Instructor Mark Jackson will facilitate a life drawing class from 9 a.m. - noon, using a live model. You must be at least 18 to attend.

Eugene Clark will show traditional techniques for drawing the human head from 12:30 - 2 p.m. This class is for all ages.

Friends of the Detroit River and Friends of Belle Isle will host Shiver on the River 2007 on Belle Isle Feb. 3

Several Belle Isle buildings will be open for tours during this winter ecological family fun fair. The Belle Isle Casino will have activities continuously from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with the Earth Angels dance group. Magic John, performance art with The Matrix Theatre and more than 20 environmental groups displaying the work of their organizations.

The Coast Guard Station will be open for the first time in the winter for tours; the Nature Zoo will have animals native to the area; and the Old Detroit Boat Club building will be open.

The table is set for a heart-filled Friendship Tea at the Trenton Cultural Center, 2427 West Road, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13.

This historic farmhouse provides the perfect, cozy atmosphere to enjoy a cup of tea and good cheer with friends, both old and new. There will be sandwiches, sweet treats and two special teas: "friendship tea" and "Cupid's love tea."
