'Aida'
Southgate Community Players will hold auditions for Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" Feb. 12 and 13 at the Corner Playhouse, 12671 Dix-Toledo, Southgate.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. each day, with auditions running from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
The musical, to be directed by Matthew and Jennifer Gorsline, is a story about a love that transcends time. Starting in the present before being whisked back to ancient Egypt, the story of Radames and Aida unfolds with a pop-rock score featuring stirring ballads and rousing chorus numbers.
In the midst of a war between their two countries, the lovers must make a choice between what they want and what they must do. Fighting off a sinister plot by Radames' father, Zoser, and hiding their love from Radames' fiance and Aida's master, Amneris, the two struggle to find a way to experience a love that is written in the stars.
Actors must be at least 18 to audition for Radames, Aida and Amneris. Mereb, Nehebka and chorus roles are open to any age.
Anyone auditioning must prepare a song and attempt an audition dance to be considered for any role. There also will be readings from the script.
