'Beauty and the Beast'
The Southgate Community Players will hold auditions for "Beauty and the Beast" from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 10 and 11 at the Corner Playhouse, 12671 Dix-Toledo Road.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and anyone wishing to audition must be registered by 8 p.m. Attendance at one audition session is sufficient.
The cast includes Belle, a woman in her mid-20s to early 40s; Maurice, Belle's father, a man in his mid-50s to early 70s; Gaston, a man in his mid-20s to mid-40s; Lefou, Gaston's sidekick, in his late teens to mid-30s; Mrs. Potts, a housekeeper/teapot with an English accent, in her mid-40s to early 60s; and the Beast, a man in his early 30s to late 40s.
Also in the cast are Lumiere, a cook/candlestick with a French accent, in his early 30s to mid-50s; Chip, Mrs. Potts' teenage son; Cogsworth, a butler/ clock with a French accent, in his early 30s to mid-50s; Babette, a maid/feather duster with a French accent, in her mid-20s to mid-40s; a Wardrobe with a French accent, in her mid-30s to mid-50s; D'Arque, director of the asylum in his mid-50s; and a chorus consisting of those in their late teens and older.

DYPAC workshops
Make friends and have fun learning about acting and music at the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center's spring workshops.
No auditions are required, but the workshops are limited to 30 participants ages 5 to 14. Workshops begin April 19.
Instructors Mary Zaleski, Holly Eggleston and Molly Zaleski will lead the workshops, which culminate with performances at 7 p.m. May 31.
The fee is $60 plus a $15 DYPAC membership fee if the child isn't already a member. Ages 5 to 8 will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, and ages 9 to 14 will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

'One Toe in the Grave'
Wyandotte Community Theatre is accepting director applications for a winter production of the comedy "One Toe in the Grave."

Solo competition
Young classical musicians are wanted to audition for the 2008 Youth Artists Solo Competition sponsored by the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra.
The competition is open to residents of Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties who have not reached their 19th birthdays before the March 29 contest. Contestants must pay an application fee.
Each contestant must memorize and perform one movement of a concerto or other work composed for one or more solo instruments with orchestral accompaniment.
Winners receive a financial prize and are invited to be soloists with the Dearborn Symphony.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 29 and space is limited to the first 30 entries in each category.
