Erie Ice Daze offers a host of wintry fun from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at Lake Erie Metropark Marshlands Museum and Nature Center in Brownstown Township.

An ice-fishing clinic will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, ice conditions permitting. Registration and a $2 fee are required as only 15 spots are available.

Short programs on both days will spotlight tundra swans, Ice Age animals and winter bird feeding.

The mysteries of the winter skies will be revealed when the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club presents an indoor winter star-watching program at 4 p.m. tomorrow, followed by a bonfire and star-gazing through powerful telescopes from 6 to 9 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, children can try their hand at making winter crafts or taking part in more physical winter pastimes such as wool spinning and weaving and snowsnake throwing.

A snowsnake-throwing tournament for both children and adults will teach participants how to hurl the long, wood instruments down an iced snow track.

A demonstration of flintknapping — the ancient art of making flint spears and arrowheads — and the throwing of atlatls, a type of spear-throwing device, also are part of the fun.

Families can learn the art of woodcarving from members of the Michigan Carvers and Collectors, and the Huron River Steelheaders will demonstrate fly-tying.
